About Sonia

I love ribbons, sweaters, coining words, making people laugh, and the sound of sizzling onions.

And of course—my camera. As an art form, photography can be so many things and I’ve enjoyed it for 14 years now. It can be visual interest, storytelling or even (cliche, I know) a window to the soul. I’ve always been fascinated with people. My work aims to convey their emotional likeness—not just physical—capturing the life, spark, connections and beauty that I see in all my subjects.

When I’m not doing shoots or personal art, I spend most of my week as a teacher in a childcare program, playing games, engaging kids in conversation, and leading dance and knitting clubs. I’ve worked with children in multiple locations over many years, and it still brings me immense joy. So it’s only natural that some of my favorite shoots are the ones where I work with children!

Whoever we are, looking back on fond memories is a treasured thing. A peek into the past—into how we felt, who we loved, what made our eyes light up.

Some of my favorite moments involve discovering old photos of family and friends. On occasion, the pictures I find are works of my own—the earliest being photos of my childhood best friend. I cherish the fun art shoots we did to this day; a time capsule of us from wayyy back when, when I was only 11 and told my mom: “I’m gonna be a photographer when I grow up.”
